When you are a leader, you can test your levels of insecurity, Intolerance and dictatorial tendencies using the following:-
How you handle criticism (justified or unjustified) from and by younger people, juniors/subordinates/peers? Do you react to the person or the issue?
When your position, advice or arguments fail to carry the day (win or prevail) do you support the collective/team position? Do you sulk, throw your toys or walk out?
How do you fare when the role to lead on something that you are good at or feel that you are best placed to lead on is assigned to someone else ?
What is your capacity and ability to listen to divergent views and to process uncomplementary data/information?
How do you treat peers and subordinates who don’t think highly of you or those that always question your character, motives and competencies?
If your own answers to the above questions point to discomfort, grave sensitivity, ego or intolerance, you have a problem deal with it ruthlessly and efficiently!
